Home brew adventure Part 1

I brewed my first beer today. More accurately two friends and me brewed an Imperial Stout. Brewing has been something that I have longed to do but have always been scared to try. It must be so complicated after all to make a good beer.

Well a friend of mine has been brewing for over a year so I asked if I could come help. Like an idiot I suggested we do an Imperial stout. I mean why start with an easy beer lets go straight to the good stuff.

So with a recipe in hand we made our way to the Home brew store (Alternative Beverage) bought some ingredients and began to brew. Now at this point all I did is follow the instructions I was given. Clean this, watch this boil, pour this and other such mundane things.

But slowly our beer began to take shape. The grains were mashed the hops added the pot was stirred, the wort was chilled and it was placed into the primary fermenter.

The best part of the whole process though was being with two friends, drinking beer and having a good time. We had a Breckenridge sampler pack (average), a Dogfish Head Red and White (very good) and some take out pizza. We sampled the beers and figures out how to change the world. That is what I love about beer. Hopefully the beer will turn out good, and if not good then at least drinkable. But for now we just have to wait. I will have to console myself with some beer in the meantime.
